Random Number Generator: Whole Numbers, Decimals, Dice and More
This free random number generator picks numbers inside any range you choose. You decide the minimum and maximum, how many numbers you want, whether they are whole numbers or decimals, and whether repeats are allowed. You can sort the results, copy them with commas, spaces or new lines, and keep a short history of recent draws. The same page also rolls dice, flips coins and picks or shuffles items from your own list.
Quick answer: for a random number between 1 and 100, leave the range as it is and press Generate Numbers. Each of the 100 numbers has a 1 in 100 chance. For lottery-style picks, choose the 6 of 49 preset, which gives six different numbers from 1 to 49 in order.
How the Numbers Are Chosen
Each number comes from the secure random generator built into your browser, the same kind of source used for encryption, rather than a simple formula that can be guessed. The picker also removes the small bias that appears when a range does not divide evenly into the random values a computer produces, so every number in your range is equally likely. With unique mode on, a number is taken out of the pool once it is drawn, so it cannot come up twice.
What You Can Generate
On the Numbers tab, set a range, an amount up to 1000, and a type. Decimals can have 1 to 10 places, and ranges can include negative numbers. You can allow only even or odd numbers, exclude numbers you do not want, and switch on Raffle mode so a number is never drawn twice until you reset the pool. Results show the sum, average and median, and a chart shows how they are spread. The Dice tab rolls up to 100 dice of any size from 2 to 1000 sides, with a modifier, advantage or disadvantage, and keep-highest or keep-lowest rules such as 4d6 drop lowest, shown as dice faces. The Coin tab flips up to 1000 coins and tracks heads, tails and the longest streak. The List tab takes names or any other items, one per line, and picks winners, shuffles the list or splits it into balanced teams.
Probability Basics
| Setting | Example | Chance of one result |
|---|---|---|
| Whole number | 1 to 100 | 1 in 100 (1%) |
| Six-sided die | d6 | 1 in 6 (16.67%) |
| Twenty-sided die | d20 | 1 in 20 (5%) |
| Two dice, total of 7 | 2d6 | 6 in 36 (16.67%) |
| Coin flip | Heads or tails | 1 in 2 (50%) |
| Lottery-style draw | 6 unique numbers from 1 to 49 | 1 in 13,983,816 to match all six |
A random draw has no memory. After five heads in a row, the next coin flip is still 50% heads. To see how your generated numbers are spread, paste them into the mean median mode calculator, or measure their spread with the standard deviation calculator.
Common Uses
Teachers use it to call on students and to create practice questions, and game players use it for dice rolls and turn order. Organizers use it to draw raffle tickets and giveaway winners, researchers use it to pick a sample, and people who like lottery-style numbers use the unique and sorted options to build a ticket, and teachers split classes into groups with the team option. It also helps when you simply cannot decide and want a fair tie-breaker.
Limits and Fair Use
Numbers can have up to 15 digits before the decimal point, and one request returns up to 1000 numbers. Results are random, so a generator cannot improve your chances in a lottery or any game of chance. It is not meant for creating passwords or security keys, where a dedicated password tool is the safer choice. For a public draw, save a screenshot or copy of the result so others can see what was drawn.
Who Can Use This Generator?
Teachers, students, game masters, event organizers, researchers, streamers running giveaways and anyone who needs an unbiased pick can use it. It works on phones, tablets and computers without signing up.
